REFLECTIONS: MEXICO is an original artwork, mounted, signed and shadow box framed. It is part of my Landscape Series, a series of paper and paper and fabric collages, some hand-stitched, and inspired by landscapes in my environment. Most of the pieces in this series are created in situ, but a few come out of remembered landscapes that have left a strong impression on me throughout my life. I love traveling to Mexico, especially when I have had the honor of teaching week-long artist retreats. This piece was made as a memory of my many trips there. I have once again been surprised as the kimono or cross shape revealed itself in the composition, but it seems to fit my Mexican landscape perfectly, a place of many shrines and bright colors in the sun. The colors of the earth, the sky, and the buildings are all so inspiring to a native Ohioan, I wanted to capture them and bring them home.
