Since retirement, I spent 5 months on South Padre Island in Texas, was a crew member in a sailboat race from Galveston to Port Aransas which took 39 hours and 43 minutes to get to the finish line..we won out division!..that was exciting. Last fall, I enjoyed the California Coast, and last spring I went on a Cruise to Honduras, Belize, and Cosumel. Just got back from Galveston. It was a mess when Ike got thru with it but the people there are very resilient and started ripping out their wet carpets and sheetrock right away. My first deployment was to New Orleans, Hurricane Gustav. It was my first time back there since Katrina and it was good to see the city again and find out how the rebuilding was going. There are still a great many businesses, apartment buildings and office buildings that were never rebuilt and may never be with the economy in the US doing so poorly. So I've survived another hurricane season (apparently). I came home a little earlier than I could have this year. Just got to missing home and friends and left the field early this year.
